Chapter 14 — Food & Cooking
How do I season a cast-iron pan?
Scrub clean, dry completely, apply thin layer of neutral oil (grapeseed works), wipe off excess until it barely looks oiled, bake upside down at 230°C for 1 hour. Cool in oven. Repeat 2–3 times for a new pan.
Follow-up questions
Can I use soap?
Yes — modern soap doesn't strip seasoning. Dry immediately and re-oil lightly.
Cast iron on glass cooktop?
Yes but carefully — never slide, don't drop, use trivets to prevent thermal shock.
