Chapter 01Health & Wellness

How much water should I drink a day?

The old '8 glasses' rule is a rough target, not a mandate. Most adults do fine drinking to thirst plus a glass with each meal — roughly 2–3 litres including food and other drinks. Dark urine and headaches are better signals than a fixed number.

Follow-up questions

Does coffee count?

Yes. Caffeine is a mild diuretic but the net fluid balance from coffee and tea is still positive.

Can you drink too much water?

Rarely, but chugging litres in an hour can dilute sodium (hyponatremia) and become dangerous, especially during endurance events.
