Chapter 03Money & Finance

How much of my income should I save?

A useful target: 20% of take-home pay. Split it as 3–6 months of expenses in an emergency fund first, then long-term investing. If 20% is impossible, start at 5% and raise it 1 point every salary bump.

Follow-up questions

Where should the emergency fund sit?

A high-yield savings account — accessible in 24 hours, earning at least the central bank's base rate.

Should I save or pay off debt first?

Build a small €1,000 buffer, then attack any debt above ~7% interest before saving more.

What is the 50/30/20 rule?

50% of take-home to needs, 30% to wants, 20% to savings and debt above the minimums. A starting frame, not a law.
