Chapter 02 — Technology & Internet
Why is my phone battery draining so fast?
Lithium batteries degrade after about 500 full charge cycles — roughly 2 years of normal use. Before replacing, check Settings → Battery for the top offenders: usually background location, brightness, and one chatty app. Heat kills batteries faster than charging habits.
Follow-up questions
Does fast charging hurt the battery?
Slightly. The bigger killer is heat, especially leaving the phone on a charger in a hot car or under a pillow.
Should I charge to 100%?
Lithium prefers 20–80%. Modern phones manage this automatically with 'optimised charging' if you keep a regular schedule.
When is it time for a new battery?
When max capacity drops below 80% (check in Settings → Battery → Battery Health on iPhone). Replacement is far cheaper than a new phone.
