Chapter 02 — Technology & Internet
Why does my phone get so hot?
Heat comes from the processor working hard — usually gaming, video recording, fast charging, or a bug in a background app. Direct sun and a thick case make it worse. Brief warmth is fine; uncomfortable-to-hold is your phone protecting itself by throttling. Sustained heat permanently degrades the battery.
Follow-up questions
What's safe operating temperature?
Most phones are rated 0–35 °C (32–95 °F). Above that, performance drops and the battery ages faster. Never charge or use a phone in a hot car.
Which app is heating up my phone?
Check Settings → Battery for usage over the last 24 hours. Anything unusually high (especially in the background) is the suspect — force-quit it, update, or uninstall.
Should I cool it in the fridge?
No — condensation forms inside and damages electronics. Just remove the case, close apps, and let it sit somewhere cool for 10 minutes.
