How do I get promoted faster?
Do the job before you have the title. Make your manager's life easier. Get results others can see. Ask explicitly: 'what does the next level look like — what am I missing?' Then close the gap.

Should I threaten to leave?
Only if you'd genuinely accept the outside offer. It permanently changes the relationship.
How often are promo cycles?
Big companies: twice a year. Startups: whenever. Small firms: rarely — external moves often pay more.
