Chapter 05 — Love & Relationships
How do I set healthy boundaries?
Boundaries are about your behaviour, not theirs. 'If you raise your voice, I'll end the call' is a boundary. 'You have to stop raising your voice' is a demand. State them once, calmly, and follow through. Boundaries you don't enforce train people to ignore them.
Follow-up questions
What if they react badly?
Expect it the first few times — you're changing the rules of a system that worked for them. Stay calm, don't over-explain, repeat the boundary.
Are boundaries selfish?
No. They make sustainable relationships possible. The alternative is resentment, which corrodes the relationship far faster than a hard conversation.
How do I set boundaries with family?
Same mechanics, harder execution. Smaller steps, more repetition, and often a therapist in your corner to keep you from collapsing under the guilt.
